Religious School
The Temple's Religious School provides our children with a formal Jewish education, designed to supplement the Jewish traditions practiced in the home. The program provides classes for preschoolers through 10th grade Confirmation. In addition, high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to contribute to the program as Madrichim (cadet teachers).
Classes are held on Sunday morning from 9:45 am until 12:15 pm for preschool through 8th grade, and from 10:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m for 8th and 9th grades. Teachers are members of the congregation, as well as the Rabbi.
The curriculum is very broad, covering a wide range of Jewish education. There are courses in Torah, Holidays, Jewish Values, Hebrew language, Holocaust studies, Israel, Social Justice, Comparative Judaism, Comparative Religion, music, art, and Jewish Cooking. Students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades have a weekend retreat that gives them an alternative model of Jewish education.
The congregation celebrates the life cycle events of our youth, including Consecration for our Kindergarten, Bar and Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, and graduation of our Madrichim. The Temple also provides special Shabbat services geared to each grade level, and all students are provided with the tools to create a strong Jewish identity and awareness.
A complete handbook on the the Religious School's goals, curriculum, and policies is available in the Temple office for all members.
